Following a review of recent problems with the customs declaration service HMRC have realised that some users may have made duplicate declarations resulting in duplicate payments of import duty and VAT.
HMRC are therefore urging users to check their records. Refunds may be claimed using a C285 form.
Users who were unable to get a movement reference number (MRN) for pre-lodged declarations due to the IT issues and were permitted to move goods without an MRN, will need to manually arrive the declaration.
