HMRC miss 99,000 phone calls because of IT system failures

13 Dec 2022

Jim Harra, HMRC’s Chief Executive and First Permanent Secretary, has written to the Treasury Committee with details of a telephony failure over five days in early December:

According to the letter:

“We estimate that we would normally have expected to handle around 99,000 customer calls during the time when our telephony helplines were temporarily closed.”
