The Low Incomes Tax Reform Group (LITRG) is warning of a potential trap for those phoning HMRC. The group gives an example of an individual who paid £140 for a call.
The problem arises where individuals search for a number but inadvertently select a premium rate number, such numbers often appearing in adverts at the top of a list of search results. Typically the expensive numbers begin with 09.
